Olivier - Veterinarian
For as long as I can remember, animals have been at the center of my life. As a child, my parents couldn’t leave me alone for a second—either I had a chicken on my lap, was cuddling a dog passing by, or showed up with an injured bird that needed to go to a shelter. After much pleading, we finally got a dog. From that moment on, animals became an inseparable part of our family.
As a kid, I even started a rescue service (complete with website) for goldfish kept in bowls, relocating them to the pond in our garden. I once appeared on a children’s TV program to explain how harmful fishbowls are. We also adopted and cared for hamsters with just one eye. It was clear from an early age that I wanted to work with animals. Luckily, I was accepted into veterinary school.
During my studies, I was able to combine my love for animals with hands-on experience. I volunteered around the world: took part in stray animal projects in Thailand, spayed and neutered dogs and cats in Brazil, and spent two months working at a dog shelter in Sicily.
In the master’s phase, I chose the companion animal track, which I completed cum laude. Alongside my studies, I worked for over five years as an assistant at the emergency veterinary clinic. I also spent part of my education in Barcelona and Budapest. That combination of practical experience, deeper learning, and travel has taught me a lot.
Since March 2025, I’ve been working with great enthusiasm at Dierenkliniek Duivendrecht. We’re a close-knit and friendly team, stay up to date with the latest knowledge, and give a lot of attention to both the animal and the owner. What I enjoy most about being a vet is the variety—from consultations to surgeries and dental treatments. No two days are the same.
