Ingrid - Veterinary Technician

My name is Ingrid.

I was born and raised in Austria, but have lived with my son Ben in the Utrechtse Heuvelrug region since 2020. As a child, I loved spending my holidays on farms. My dream job was to be a farmer, so I’d always be surrounded by animals. But in the end, I chose an office job.

As a child, I had a cat named Chica and a tomcat named Puma. Unfortunately, neither lived very long. Chica was hit by a car at just eighteen months old, and Puma suddenly stopped coming home after a few years. It was such a heartbreak that I didn’t have any pets for years (except for fishing).

It wasn’t until I later moved out on my own and started studying that cats came to live with me again. Eventually, I even had four. I can’t imagine life without cats now!

Because my son is afraid of dogs, unfortunately, there will be no dog in the house. That’s why I’m volunteering in my region to walk dogs for elderly people who can’t walk themselves due to health reasons. This way, they don’t have to say goodbye to their beloved pet. Our pets are so important to our well-being!

After moving to the Netherlands with my son, I wasn’t sure what kind of work I would do later. But one thing was certain: I don’t want an office job anymore!

When my own veterinarian was looking for a veterinary nurse, it clicked. Working with animals AND people was definitely my thing. I find it very important that not only pets, but also their owners, feel comfortable with me. I’m generally quite calm in my interactions, but I enjoy humor during consultations (when possible). You’ll often see me laughing.

During my abbreviated MBO level 4 program in Utrecht, I was able to do an internship at Dierenkliniek Duivendrecht. Merel and Larisa provided fantastic guidance. I didn’t want to leave, and luckily, I was also allowed to stay on! I’m now a member of a very dedicated and fantastic team in a clinic where humanity, compassion, and thoughtfulness are paramount.

I also really enjoy the diversity of our clients; many different languages are spoken. Occasionally, I can even assist in my native German and share a few words in Spanish. How wonderful is that?
